Bangalow Music Festival is an enchanting weekend of music in an intimate setting. Showcasing a vibrant cross-section of musical styles in the beautiful township of Bangalow, just ten minutes from Byron Bay, this annual Festival is a world-class event.
The programs are rich in collaboration between professional chamber ensembles, emerging young artists, Australian composers and world-class soloists. Over the years the Festival has welcomed many distinguished artists, including Ilya Knovalov (Concertmaster of the Israel Philharmonic), the Australian String Quartet, Tankstream Quartet, Tel-Aviv Trio, Marshall Maguire, Slava Grigoryan, and of course members of the Southern Cross Soloists.
After attending the Festival in 2004, legendary Australian composer Peter Sculthorpe described it as, “the most exciting festival, outside a capital city, that I have ever attended”.
The award-winning Bangalow Music Festival has been the most spectacular development of the Southern Cross Soloists in recent years. The Festival has grown to become one of the country’s finest music festivals.
In 2010, the Bangalow Festival treats the intimate audience (seating is limited to 300) to a veritable feast for the senses. The complete event includes:
- Eight outstanding chamber music recitals held in the historic A&I Hall, beginning on the Friday night and culminating in a spectacular finale on the Sunday afternoon
- An open door to encourage communication between audience and musicians
- A community concert, presented before the Festival for the local residents who spend the Festival accommodating the audience
- An educational children’s concert featuring leading musicians from both Australia and overseas for local school children.
