Music and Movement with SXS

Date: Wednesday 5 November 2025
Times: 9am - 12.30pm TBC
Location: Thomas Dixon Centre

Queensland Ballet and Southern Cross Soloists (SXS) invite students to experience the powerful relationship between movement, didgeridoo and chamber music through a unique Immersion Experience at the Thomas Dixon Centre. This unique program, designed for students, highlights how musical elements like tempo, mood, and dynamics influence movement and storytelling. Featuring live music by Southern Cross Soloists, including classical and didgeridoo sounds, students will engage in interactive workshops led by a Queensland Ballet Teaching Artist to explore how music transforms movement. Highlights include observing a Company class, participating in Q&A sessions with musicians, and experimenting with live music to adapt dance phrases in real-time. This curriculum-aligned experience supports QCAA Senior Dance and ACARA Version 9 Dance and Music, fostering creativity, critical thinking, and social understanding as students discover how music shapes expression in dance.
